About Celine
Celine Vipiana and her husband Richard established the French luxury label Celine in 1945 as a made-to-order children’s shoe boutique. After a successful decade, Celine Vipiana added ready-to-wear clothes for women bringing fashion to everyday wear. Her designs were more practical than frivolous, a real ode to modern women everywhere.
The label has introduced several products but has always stayed true to the identity of its founder. Introduced in Florence in 1966, Céline bags have become go-to-bags the world’s leading fashion influencers carry today. The Celine luxury brand became a global brand at the end of the 1970s and later a part of the LVMH group in 1987. The House has a distinct line of clothes, jewellery, and shoes since it started, but leather goods are still where the label excels even today.
Phoebe Philo took over the Céline brand and introduced some iconic designs like the Celine Classic, Boogie, Triomphe, Mini Belt Bag, Celine Luggage, the Trapèze. Hedi Slimane became the Creative Director in 2018 after Phoebe stepped down. His latest design, 16, is a departure from Phoebe’s established label aesthetics, but Lady Gaga was the first celeb to carry it even before its debut on the runway. Hedi, inspired by Celine's archives, launched his C Bag -a boxy shoulder bag with a C monogram on the fastener in 2019 Spring.
The luxury fashion house Celine dropped the accent above the first e from its name on 3rd September 2018. Hedi Slimane implemented the revamp to resemble the original 1960s brand logo. Dropping the accent on the 'E' allows for a simplified and balanced logo that calls to mind the 1960s Celine collections where the accent was not in use much. The latest logo uses the 1930s modernist typography with narrow spaces between the letters to create a crisp appearance. The brand restored the word Paris from the 1960s logo on its packages and clothing line but did not use it beneath the logo in its campaigns.
HOW TO AUTHENTICATE CELINE BAG
Monogram and Stitching (Exterior material)
The Céline logo outside should have an accent above the first “e” pointed to the right and “Paris” printed beneath it in the old Celine Bags. The font should not be thick and fuzzy, nor thin and faded. Authentic Celine bags feel soft, are supple, with little gloss, and droop over time with use. Fake Celine bags will crumple and fold easily and usually have a coarse, lusterless finish. Studs, Zippers, Fasteners (Exterior Hardware)
Authentic Celine bags do not have zippers with the brand name; instead, the centre of the zip, i.e., between the zip teeth curves and has a numerical pattern that represents the size of the zip. The original hardware looks subtly antique with a dull finish. Authentic fasteners for the shoulder straps have a curved ring at the base of the hardware. Make sure the hardware base has three rings with no breaks between them.
Interior Lining
The inner lining on Celine bags are micro-suede, calfskin leather, or lambskin leather in bags, whether it is the Trapeze or the Triomphe. The date code is either embossed on the inner lining or has a leather tab attached inside.
Leather Tag & Serial Number
The inner label has Made in Italy printed in capital letters to the right. This label will vary based on the size of the totes. Nano Luggage Totes have the Celine logo stamped on a leather tag, while most Céline bags have a serial number tag in leather. The stamped numbers are not unique and often repeated; however, they must always have: one letter, two letters, four numbers.
